As one of the largest banks in the Netherlands, ING continuously strives to improve its digital banking experience to meet customer needs for secure, efficient, and seamless financial management. Working alongside the ING development team, we contributed to multiple projects within their iOS banking app to enhance the functionality and user experience of several key client-facing features.

From creating a reliable QR code scanner to developing a watch app for account status updates, our work spanned various features aimed at improving money management, secure payments, and customer engagement. These enhancements helped ING strengthen its position as a leader in digital banking, providing customers with greater convenience and security.

Challenges

  • Streamlining Payment Features: Customers needed a simple yet secure way to pay online and manage their money within the app.

    We worked on several smaller projects focused on improving the app’s ability to manage money and pay online securely. This included:
    • Payment Request Feature: A simple and intuitive feature that allowed users to request money owed from friends or family directly within the app.
    • iDeal Integration: We facilitate to integrated iDeal, ensuring users could make secure payments online directly through the app. The seamless integration of this popular payment method improved customer confidence and convenience when paying online.
  2. Barcode Scanner

    One of our key contributions was developing a reliable barcode and QR code scanner that allowed users to:
    • Scan Multiple QR Codes: This feature simplified both online and in-store payments, increasing the app’s overall functionality. Users can generate QR codes when requesting payments, making it easy for others to scan and complete the transaction. Additionally, the app’s two-factor authentication leverages QR codes to enhance security across devices.
  3. Watch App Development

    To cater to users who required real-time updates on their finances, we developed a companion Watch App for ING:
    • Current Account Status Updates: The watch app provided users with instant updates on their account status, including balance changes and transaction alerts. This helped customers stay informed about their finances without needing to open the mobile app.
